The TRC Pound helps reunite lost dogs and cats with their existing owners or find a new owner. You can also visit our website at http://www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/
The pound is a holding facility for lost cats and dogs. If the animal is microchipped
it is kept for 14 days from time of notification to the owner. Animals that are not
microchipped are kept for 7 days. At the end of this time all animals are
available for purchase. You can place a HOLD on an animal at any time if you are
interested. You will be notified at the appropriate time if the animal is still
available..
Council has 2 requirements under the Companion Animals Act in terms of
releasing cats and dogs from the pound.
All cats and dogs must be identified (microchipped) from 12 weeks of age (can be
microchipped from as young as 6 weeks). Cats and dogs are not released from
the pound if they have not been microchipped and are aged over 12 weeks,
unless prior arrangements have been made.
